CIP  optimisation

In-Site Control Ltd

When did you last audit your CIP systems, establishing costs and identifying waste?

The capabilities of In-Site enable it to monitor a whole site simultaneously.

¤ Typically we would expect to identify £5-10k/ savings per CIP channel. We have saved clients as much as £40-60k on individual CIP systems.

¤ Cost savings are factual and can be evidenced. You can compare before & after reports on all of your CIP plants and establish the cost savings achieved in detail, reports can be ranged over daily, weekly, monthly time scales.

¤ When the In-Site unit commences monitoring a CIP system and before any data analysis has been carried out, the reporting systems will identify the actual cost and CO2 emissions specific to every CIP clean, potentially identifying 'quick wins'. The reports also detail whether each clean conforms to the site's quality standards and which circuits have alarms/failures.

Analysis of the In-Site data identifies the many differing facets of automated systems:

Effectiveness of Product Recovery sequence.

Repeatability of cleaning programmes.

Achievement of Time, Temperature, Concentration.

Poor inter-face between CIP mediums.

True circuit journey times.

Impact on nearest / furthest vessel.

Wastage of resources, potential effluent incidents, etc.

CIP / Process plant - time spent in HOLD or ALARM.

RESOURCES and how they may affect your operation

Product Recovery

Basic cost of product and possible impact on effluent load and detrimental effect on CIP detergent tank.

Water

£0.25-£0.50/m3 Typical flow rate of ¼ -1 m3/minute but can be as much as1½ -2 m3/minute

Effluent

£0.16-£0.75 per metre3(R+V)

Consent levels

Volume,  pH,  COD,  Solids

Energy

Steam (£0.48 per therm)
Electricity (£0.04 per kWh)

CO2 emissions

Electricity (from grid) = 0.0453 kgC/kWh primary
Natural gas = 0.0518 kgC/kWh primary (1 therm = 29 kWh)

Chemicals

Over-use can impact on effluent
(possible use of Acid instead of Caustic to reduce pH)

Time

More use of above resources and also alarms or CIP failures possibly delaying availability of production plant
